SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time since Syracuse University announced it had fired associate head basketball coach Bernie Fine, head coach Jim Boeheim is speaking publicly.

Boeheim was on ESPN Radio Tuesday afternoon for his weekly appearance on "Upon Further Review." Hosts Steve infanti and Chris McManus started off the interview by making it clear that Boeheim was not going to directly address the Fine situation, but he did comment on the state of the team.

"The players have no distractions. The players are not a part of anything they don't know anything about it. Stuff that happened a long time ago. They are focused on being a good basketball team and being good players and that's what they're focus should be. They're doing their work in school and they're coming to practice and they're working on it and they're not talking about anything, they're not doing anything except playing basketball and that's the way it should be and that's where the focus will be," said Boeheim.

Sunday, Boeheim did release a statement backing the University's decision to part ways with Fine. He also apologized for comments he previously made calling the accusers liars.

Amid calls for Boeheim's resignation, Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor has spoken out in support of the coach.

YNN was the only TV channel on hand in Albany as Cantor exited an economic development conference. It was the first time the Chancellor has appeared on camera since the Bernie Fine situation hit the headlines nearly two weeks ago.

"Coach Boeheim is our coach. He's getting the team ready tonight and we're very pleased with what he said Sunday night and we stand by it," Cantor said.

We will carry Jim Boeheim's post-game press conference live, so be sure to tune into YNN after the game. Coverage begins just after 9 p.m.
