BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A Binghamton business is leading the charge to keep kids warm during the winter.

Lupo's S&S Char-Pit is partnering with the United Way and other local businesses for the 19th annual Keeping Kids Warm Coat Drive. They are collecting new or gently used coats for kids in Broome County.

Organizers say that the circumstances in the Southern Tier will likely add to the number of people who need coats.

"We were hoping this program was going to end way before 19 years, but there's a need out there and with the flooding, I'm sure there's going to be a greater need," said Sam Lupo, event creator and organizer.

Organizers have distributed nearly 50,000 coats since the program's beginning.

Those needing coats are urged to call the Red Cross at 211.
