SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A group of Syracuse high schoolers are working to get other students to stop texting and driving. The DECA club at Nottingham High School has put together a public relations project on the dangers of texting and driving.

The students displayed a car wrecked by a distracted driving accident, and even made a PSA about the dangers of texting while driving.

The club gave out thumb bands Friday as a reminder to put the phone away at the wheel.

"Well, teenagers are teenagers, they'll listen to whatever they want to, but we're just hoping that we can, just instill in their [minds], 'Oh, I could die from this. So, I just should just be careful," said DECA member James Appleton.

Nottingham DECA members say they hope to expand their efforts to other schools in the area.
