Over the past few weeks, we've been asking you on our Facebook page about your favorite places to eat around the region. Well, your suggestions made our Brad Vivacqua hungry, so he decided to check some of them out. This week, in the first edition of On the Menu, Brad enjoys breakfast at a popular Syracuse diner.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- If you're looking for great some breakfast, we certainly have some tasty options here in Upstate New York.
We spent a month gathering feedback from you on our Facebook page about some of your favorite breakfast items at locations across the region. And so based on your comments, one of your top selections was here at Stella's on Wolf Street in Syracuse, where they've been cooking up some great selections for 14 years.
We've taken quite a few votes from you for Stella's for breakfast and at the top of your list was the ever popular fretta. With me is Roger, he's the cook here at Stella's and he's going to tell us more about it.
"A good healthy portion of pepperoni, then we put in sautéed mushrooms, onion, peppers, diced up ham, diced up sausage, diced up broccoli, then we put a healthy portion of potatoes in there. Takes about three to four minutes to heat up and then the eggs,” he said. “Put in six healthy scoops into the fretta and let that cook for a little. We put a little provolone, shredded cheddar and some shredded Swiss, put it in the melt for thirty seconds and it's done."
With these mouth watering ingredients, the Stella's fretta weighs about five pounds and is great served with toast.
Stella's is also known for a number of other breakfast choices and regardless of what you order, there's a good chance you'll leave with a full stomach.
"Size is important. A lot of our customers like to have leftovers to take them home and eat later and it's just good food. We buy good products and do our best to prepare it well," said Betty Stellakis, Stella’s co-owner.
The next time you're on the north side of Syracuse, perhaps it's breakfast, lunch or dinner time. Stella's is open seven days a week. They'd appreciate your business and if it is breakfast time, you should stop in and try the fretta.
