OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- The historic Oneonta Theatre will close its doors at the end of the month and its future beyond that is very much in doubt. Management says the final event at the theatre will be First Night Oneonta on New Year’s Eve.
They say owner, Tom Cormier, who bought the theatre in 2009 and rehabilitated it, is hoping to find a nonprofit to partner with that would allow him to reopen its doors.
The theatre opened in 1897 and is on the state and national registers of historic places. It is also one of the oldest running theatres in the country.
