WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Two days after the tragic murder of two firefighters in a Rochester suburb, police are working to identify another body. Webster's police chief says they believe they have found the remains of the shooter's sister, Cheryl Spengler.

Police say William Spengler, 62, intentionally set fire to his house, then waited for first responders to arrive. When they did, police say Spengler opened fire with an arsenal of weapons, killing two firefighters immediately and critically injuring two others.

The two firefighters killed in the shooting were Mike Chiapperini, who was also a lieutenant with the Webster Police Department, and Tomaz Kaczowka, who joined the West Webster Fire Department as an explorer.

The two other firefighters injured in the shooting were Joe Hofstetter and Ted Scardino. At last check they were both listed in guarded condition at a Rochester hospital.

A responding police officer at the scene shot back at Spengler before the gunman eventually shot and killed himself.

Fire crews had to leave the area because of the shooting allowing the fire at Spengler's home spread to nine houses on Lake Road, destroying seven of them.

Testing is expected to confirm that the body found inside Spengler's home Tuesday belonged to his sister.

"The medical examiner will be working on the identification and I’m assuming this will take quite a period of time," said Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering.

Investigators say they're still not sure of a motive for Spengler's actions. Police say it appears his plan was to kill as many people as possible. They're not sure if there are any other victims in the rubble.
