Rochester held its annual New Year's Eve fireworks display to say farewell to 2012 and welcome in 2013.

Despite the recent heavy snowfall, skies stayed clear enough for revelers to come out and enjoy the fireworks.

For the 23rd year in a row, we brought you the fireworks live on YNN.

While New Year's Eve is looked at as a chance to party and have fun, police officers were out making sure people stayed safe.

State Police say by keeping people who are drunk or impaired off the road, it protects both the impaired people, as well as everyone else.

"Safety is a priority. Like I said, what we like to do is remove drivers that are intoxicated off the roadways, that's the primary concern. Our secondary concern is to actually educate the public in doing so," said Sgt. Samuel Spezio, New York State Police.

This particular checkpoint was located at the Inner Loop in Rochester.
