BUFFALO -- YNN first introduced you to Kate Shaffer of Cheektowaga and Corey Coleman of Watertown in the summer of 2012. They were a young couple about to embark on an incredible journey.

The two were one of 50,000 contestants nationwide vying for the title of "Best New Act in Country Music" in the Texaco Country Showdown.

They won the state and regional competitions, and on Thursday they will be one of 5 groups competing in the finals in the country music capital of the world, Nashville, Tennessee.

"It's kind of like a dream. I don't even know how to respond to it," Coleman told us by phone.

It hasn't taken them long to get to this point. The duo have only been performing together for less than two years. They started off performing in different clubs in Buffalo. They now live in Atlanta, Georgia.

"This was not part of the plan," Coleman said. "We're happy to do it, but it was just something that sort of happened. The plan is to be middle-class musicians doing music full-time."

They share a love and talent for music that will take them to one of the most historic music venues in the country, the Ryman Auditorium.

"We have to enjoy every moment that we are on that stage playing for a crowd at the Ryman Auditorium because that doesn't happen very often. We are very very fortunate," Shaffer said.

You'll want to remember Kate and Corey because there are many big names that have competed in the same competition. The list includes Martina McBride, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, and the list goes on and on.

The competition will be televised some time in March or April and of course YNN be following their story and let you know how they did.
