MANLIUS, N.Y. -- Manlius residents will have two familiar faces to choose from when they vote for village mayor next month.

Fire Chief Paul Whorrall announced Monday he's running for the seat on the Citizens Party ticket. Whorrall is a 40-year member of the village fire department and also served as village trustee. He's running against incumbent Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin.

Serafin was elected in 2009 and says his greatest accomplishments include working to redevelop unused sites. He says there are several projects he plans to continue if re-elected, while Whorrall says he'd like to encourage business development and government transparency.

"Making sure that the businesses also feel secure in coming to us and discussing things with us. They need to discuss it with the board. They can come and discuss it with the mayor, but it needs to go to the board -- we need to show transparency," said Whorrall.

"I'm working on budgets, but I'm also working shoulder-to-shoulder with Mike Dougherty as he gets ready for the second phase of Madison Row to make sure that we stay on track for that," said Serafin.

Voting will take place March 19th in the Village Center from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
