TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- When you think of Thanksgiving dinner, baba ganoush, falafel and hummus are not typically dishes that come to mind. But on Saturday, celebrity chef Julie Taboulie shared her Lebanese inspired Thanksgiving meals with food lovers in the Southern Tier.
Participants watched Taboulie demonstrate how to cook each of the dishes at The Kitchen Store in Apalachin.
Afterwards, they sampled them, including spiced carrot soup, a Lebanese inspired stuffing, and stuffed Cornish hens.
"It's nice to try and twist things up around Thanksgiving,” Taboulie said. “Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where it seems like the same old stuff. Although there’s definitely a tradition you want to keep in your family well and alive, there are certainly other things you can do to make it interesting and new."
About 50 people attended the two sessions.
Taboulie has her own cooking show on PBS that focuses on Middle Eastern and Lebanese cuisine.
