ELMIRA, N.Y. -- A homicide is under investigation in Elmira.
Police were called to the area of South Main Street and West Chemung Place shortly before 4 o'clock Saturday morning for a report that an injured man was on the ground.
Police say the man, whose name is not being released at this time, had been stabbed.
He was taken to an area hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police were still on scene throughout the afternoon, and could be seen coming in and out of an apartment.
Time Warner Cable News spoke with a nearby resident who says police knocked on her door early in the morning to see if she had heard anything. She's now left feeling uneasy.
"We didn't know what to think, you know, nowadays you don't know what to think. I guess it's just not safe anywhere I guess," said Dorothy Baldick, an Elmira resident.
Police are currently following up on leads and ask anyone with information to call the department at (607)737-5626.
